I can't relax!

So it goes a little something like this..

There's so much to do, you feel responsible for some many things and people and every day another "thing" comes to add to your list or test you.

You need to RELAX- just for a moment.

You may have done some work on yourself and discovered some self soothing ways to calm- run a bath, get in nature, read a book, go to yoga, meditate

But as soon as you do your mind becomes alive- chat chat chat!!!

DON'T FOREGT THAT!

YOU MUST DO THAT WHEN YOU'RE DONE

THIS IS WASTE OF TIME YOU COULD BE DOING...

THIS ISN'T WORKING GO AND DO.....

Sound familiar?

For those of you that have consistently nourished your relaxation practice - congratulations! You can step away from the noise, slow everything down, know when you need to pause and feel calmer and less stressed when you do

But

If you are still struggling- first be kind to yourself.

One of the reasons we can struggle to switch off is that we have become so used to being "ON" all the time that our nervous system is frazzled, always on the look out for danger and is wired for action. And your'e still alive so it must be safe.

So when you attempt to try anything to slow your system down, guess what?

You subconsciously feel unsafe. And the quickest way to get you back to safety? Get busy again. Busy mind. Do Do Do

But we can't sustain this level of stress. Look around at the amount of people dealing with stress and anxiety and an inability to cope.

So if you want to bring some relaxation into your life here are some tips

  1. Take some time to discover what you enjoy- not what your friends tell you or looks good on social media.
  2. What did you enjoy as a child?
  3. When did you last laugh- what were you doing?
  4. if you had no restrictions on time or resources what would you do?
  5. Start small and prioritise some time to relax. Make it as important as work or other responsibilities
  6. When you notice your mind wandering during your relaxation be kind to yourself. Its just trying to keep you safe
  7. Say "I AM SAFE"
  8. And continue a little more, become a little mindful of your moment. What can you see, hear, feel, smell and taste
  9. Start with just a few minutes at first to give your body time to get used to the feeling
  10. Stay CONSISTENT with a daily practice

Consistently is the key with anything you. Each time you engage in some form of relaxation, your mind and body will remember your activity from the last time, give you a little longer before it wants to get back to safety and over time you will feel able to relax a little longer and reap the benefits

O'h and why not book on that gong meditation class as part of your activities!!!

So be kind, be consistent and relax
